didnt ford also put the 2 speed trannys in the explorer beside the AWD I worked for ford motor co. at there hazelwood plant for 7 yrs but cant remember for sure if they did are not

A 2-speed tranny? Like a Powerglide? No. Never. Explorers have had the following transmissions:
M5OD manual 1991-01
A4LD 1991-94
4r55e 1995-97
5r55e 97-01
4r70w 96-01 on V8s only.

On the AWD 5.0 explorer the only options were either a
2wd 4R70W 4speed automatic
or
4x4 4R70W 4sp automatic with a full time
"AWD" (Viscous coupling) Borg-Warner 44-04 transfer case.
