xj coils = lift?

I have a set of front stock xj jeep coils from a buddy build, they are the same diameter but look to be longer. Anyone ever tried this for cheap lift?

XJ coils are softer a soft rat coil then TTB. Is your explorer 2wd or 4wd? Lifting any of them will cause the caster to be thrown off and it will need to be aline. The fronts on RBV dont like to be lifted with just coils, takes a bit more then that.

Will they fit yes but the fronts suspensions of RBV act like fulcrums to the coils so they have to be stiff for a reason and only have about 2-2.5 inches of travel on a stock rig (in 95 exploers went to IFS and rangers went to IFS in 98).

Stock XJ coils will not gain you any lift as the spring rate is not as much as the stock ranger coil. For example, The XJ coils will sag a lot more compared to your ttb coils in turn, making them just about the same height. Now, what you WILL gain is flex.

I've heard XJ coils on the front of a ranger make it squirrely on the road tho, so do this at your own risk.

I have 6.5" XJ lift coils and at about 5.75" of true lift. So I'd think stock coils would lower it, but would undoubtedly give more flex.

And I have to run a sway bar on the street.

Spacers are a good cheap option that usually works well (provided the stock springs are in decent shape), though they would actually need to be about 1.3" thick to get 2" lift from the suspension. Any more than that and you might not be able to realign it afterward.

If your steering linkage is all jacked up it will... However if your steering is set up properly, you'd only just be dealing with the added body roll because of the softer springs (which dual shocks or a swaybar would help counteract).

Not calling you out or anything, but I read somewhere (& my info could be faulty) that a rangers curb weight was around 2900# and the XJ was just over 3000#.

I myself understand that XJ coils won't necessarily lift a ranger due to their softer rate, but won't they support the vehicle? I have stock XJ coils laying around, I'm planning on using them when I do my SAS...now I'm curious about how much lift to "build" into my coil buckets when I make them.

I'm sure the distance between the perch and bucket is different between RBVs and XJs.

That's a good point. I shouldve measured before I junked the XJ.

I also stand corrected, I guess a regular cab short bed 4x4 w/ a 2.3L is about 3600#...my bad

yea, also a solid axle doesn't distribute weight the same way that TTB does, and since I have actual experience doing this don't "Call Me out"

you need to get some stock v8 grand cherokee (zj) coils i got 3 inchs of lift out of them and there still half the spring rate...

Threw a set of 220PPI TJ 4.5" coils into a stock 4.0L TTB extended cab ranger and those still lowered it. Those same exact coils lifted my XJ 3".

TTB's sag out normal coils more than a straight axle out of design hence why stock coils have some crazy 350PPI rating. Cheap lift coils IMO are F150 coils. Gain 4-5" out of them, but ride like a dump truck, can dump the sway bar to get a little ride quality back.
