xj coils = lift?

my b2 has some stock xj coils and i can get my big ass on the front bumper, jump and it doesnt move at all. it is bottomed out. completely. looks like my b2 is doing a nose dive.

I've got some 4x4 f150 waiting to go in. Some folks say theyre kinda stiff but they cant be any worse than it is now with it on the bump stops.

So would 3'' xj springs level a ranger?

Depends on the Ranger...
If it's a reg cab shortbox with a 4-cyl engine, you'll probably get around 2" lift out of them.

TTB's sag out normal coils more than a straight axle out of design hence why stock coils have some crazy 350PPI rating.

350PPI would actually be quite reasonable (at least for heavier Supercab trucks). Most coils exceed that by a pretty good margin, some by as much as 200PPI!

I can vouch for that, rough country coils are stiff as hell! They dont want to flex

I thought the springs people went to were the Xj Springs when doing a swap. You know... "a six inch lift spring for and Xj gives you four inches of lift" idea.
Please, feel free to correct (not chastise me) if I'm incorrect.

That is quite high IMO. TTB coils as a whole are stiff as hell.

The Ranger and XJ may have a simlar front weight, but the TTB has a 1.5x mechanical advantage on the coil--like a nutcracker. The XJ spring on the XJ only has to support the weight. The spring on the Ranger has to support 150% weight. Since a spring is linear, that can be directly converted to height--except that the distance between the spring mounts isn't the same.

It's been 10 years since I did this I think, and I've always told people to measure your truck and select your springs like I've described in that thing I wrote back then. The ones I used directly replaced 3" lift springs with 3" drop brackets and I didn't have any trouble with suspension jacking. I used no front sway bar and eventually went to a single pair of front shocks when the Duff doubles weren't working with the increased travel. My suspension is still together on the B2 frame and is now getting an '83 Ranger cab with no changes planned. Once you get the springs right, and get the axle shaft yokes ground for clearance and the axle beam window opened--it's a brilliant offroad suspension. More than 3" lift, though, and you better fix the steering.

Also, you have to make sure you alignment is done properly. It has to be aligned with the weight on the tires.

No argument from me that TTB coils are stiff as hell, however 350PPI is well under what TTB coils typically are.

And FWIW, the XJ's frontend weight (sprung weight) is right around 1500lbs. The only RBVs in that same ballpark are the BII or a 4-cyl shortbox Ranger. You can add about 500-600lbs to that for a Supercab V6 truck.

like mentioned previously, xj coils (along with all other solid axle coils) are much softer then ranger springs, and will probably sag alot as soon as you put the weight of the truck back on them, probably close to 2-3 inches, you will also need more dampening in your shocks, otherwise your trucks going to just bounce around, i had this problem in my sas'd 94, i had early bronco progressive springs with ranger style lift shocks and it sucked, it put a whole new meaning to the term wheel hop
