i need help identifying this bug... it's pretty weird looking, never seen one like it before... this is in my bedroom in Calgary Alberta Canada, our temperatures get to -40 in the winter, and +35 (celcius) in the summer (-40 is -40)

here's a blurry pic of it's silhouette

video of it half squished...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHf3MWXdEW0

and a brief explanation of it... it was just chilling on my wall for like 20 minutes after i found it, before i poked it, it can fly, kinda... it flew like 6" then started walking, poke it again, fly 3" start walking again... wings are not visable for the most part, almost seem like they are hidden like on a beetle... it was roughly the size of a large ant, and had a soft crunch type sound when i squished it...

we got something like that in Loo-z-anna.....don't know what it is....

but I do know that I don't want it to bite me..........

snakefly! now that's a char-r-r-r-r-ming name...I guess Lucifer was their second choice....

very similar, though the one that i just killed's wings dissapear completely, or atleast aren't bigger than it's body... and it doesn't have the long neck

just sent that website (whatsthatbug.com) an email with the pics

Lol soft crunch type sound when squished, im sure an entomologist would love that identifier.:icon_rofl:

Here in Central Indiana the last several years we have been seeing bugs as well as birds we didn't used to see around here. I think it has to do with the heat. LOL!@"soft crunch type sound"

Almost looks like a mayfly.

When I saw this thread I thought "bed bug"...now I'm glad I looked...it's not a bed bug...those things give me the shivers...

was anyone else thinking of VW bugs when they read the tittle?

living in Arkansas your bound to see wierd insects...

Looks like an earwig, we have those in Maine, too. Harmless, they're like redneck cockroaches.

no, but interesting story, the chick i banged tuesday night (at her house) woke up to find out that she had bed bugs, and had a couple bites on her... she's convinced it was me that brought them to her, but i've got no bites at all.. (i am working at a homeless shelter this week)

and of course yesterday night, at the shelter, this woman said she found lice on her daughter, wasn't a big deal, there was 2 families out of 20 had it, that we knew of, today, 90% of the families were infected with live bugs... i came home, stripped naked, put all of my clothes (including shoes) into a black garbage bag, sealed it, took a crap, shaved my head, showered with exceptionally hot water, then proceeded to dump everything in the garbage bag into the washing machine with bleach, and everything on super hot

that's kinda what i thought, but it's got wings... earwigs don't have wings, nor do i think we have earwigs where i (and master hec0) live, though back home on the coast they are around... i'm fairly sure it's too cold here for them
