wrong gearing from factory?

Its on the axle, if its not then the axle has ben serviced somehow and maybe the gears were changed and arent factory. One of the carrier bolts will have the tag on it.

So VIN is...

4F4LY4HE6APM01811

Teddyzee where is the axle tag your referring too? this is my first truck so I'm not sure of most things.

Just crawl under the back of the truck, the tag is held on with one of the cover bolts. It just a thin little stamped piece of tin, bring a light even in the day.:icon_thumby:

So no axle tag. What should I do now? Should I ask my dealer to look into it?

OASIS system lists your truck as having 3.73 gears. That is what it rolled off the line with. If your tag is missing then the axle cover has probably been off. It would be very very odd for a truck to be regeared at the dealership though.

That last part was a bit non-sequitir.

Glad you slept well though.

yeah!

what adsm08 said.........make sure the differential is a non-sequitir....

DG, you are awesome.

I will get my vin tomorrow for you guys, thanks for the help. To clarify...
Mazda's brochure state's that all B4000's come with 4.10 gears. Would I even feel a difference if the wrongs gearing was in? How about fuel economy?

try reading the fine print at the end/bottom of the sales brochure. they aren't exactly the difinitive source for answers.

Actually, you want to make sure the axle is sequitir. "Sequitir" (sp?) is Latin for 'Follows'. Consequently a "non-sequitir" axle will NOT follow the rest of the truck. At that point, you have bigger problems than the gears.

Never believe the brochure. You prolly won't notice it driving, the 3.73s will do a BIT better on gas. You prolly won't notice that unless you keep meticulous records on your mileage like I do.

So the dealer confirmed that the code and the vin all call up the 3.73 axle. They did how ever check there 2wd trucks and then some of there 4wd trucks. Mazda only orders 2 different axles. Long story short the 2wd is a diferent code than the 4wd trucks that he checked. They are saying that it's a codeing issue from ford and that I have 4.10 gears because all there inventory and some older trucks on the lot would all be wrong.

I guess I will leave it alone then. I love the truck, and it runs great. Don't think I want to mess with a 3 month old truck.

What do you all think? Makes sense?

demand a 410 geared axle be swaped in at their expense or a full refund and threaten to call the bbb

I does happen. It's rare, but sometimes they get coded wrong. That may be why there is no axle tag. I would still do the wheel spin check to be sure, just because that info can be important later on.
