Sup,
So just did an oil change on the ranger, I swear I just put over 5L of oil in there and its still not up to the full mark. On my old 2.3 i remember it took a 4l jug of oil.
The dip stick reads ford e57e-6750-AA. M.
Also not sure if my engine is a 2.0l or a 2.3l.
Any ideas???????

Any Ford 4-cylinder should take no more than 5 liter or oil, no matter what year or displacement. For the purpose of an oil change, the old 2.0 and 2.3 are the same engine.

I'm not up on my dipstick base numbers, but engine oil should be a yellow looped metal handle, the trans dipstick should be red or white and have something about Mercon printed on it somewhere.

My 95 2.3 has a black t handle for the engine oil dipstick.

Pretty sure it's stock, but I bought it used so perhaps not.

No, that is appropriate to a 95. Given that the OP failed to give any info about the vehicle in question I am assuming it is the 83 listed in his profile info.

My dipstick is not the original and I've tested it by filling it with exactly 4 litres plus about 1/4 in the filter...it reads about half a litre short when I do this...

Mine has the yellow loop on the end but the original on the 2.0 had a T bar handle...

I would suggest just put the 4 litres in and check the level and go from that point...maybe etch the dipstick with the full level just to remind yourself where it should be.

Edit: I should note that I also swapped out the dipstick scabbard (for lack of better word) and had to mix and match to get it to fit where it would not interfere with things...but it is not the original scabbard...I had two or three engine parts kicking around and used the one that fit the manifold bolt where it is secured...

Yes I'm talking about the ranger in my profile, 83 4cyclinder.
Mine also has the yellow loop handle, I think I'm going to go to the wreckers and find one from the right engine.it measures 22 3/16's from the bottom of the yellow part.

nice, well i found one out of an 1985 2.3l carbureted mustang. It's like an inch longer than the one i have and out of other rangers, even the efi ranger has a shorter stick.

Not to be too nitpicky, but I assume we're talking about oil in Quarts here, not Liters? Y'all are throwing me off. If one person means L and the other means qts...

Sorry for being of not help but I cannot let this pass without saying.......

(Irish voice) Think with your dipstick (end voice)

1 Quart = .95 Liters.... close enough.

Yeah I said 4l but I think most jugs are like 3.73L.

I buy the 5 L jugs...at first I thought they were for the 5.0 mustangs only...but then I realized that Explorers had the 5.0 in them as well as some F series trucks...

Yeah, it only causes issues if you get up over about 7 qts. After that there is almost 1/2 qt difference and you need to specify. Until then, they are the same for discussion purposes.

LOL. Mark, that made my day. :icon_rofl:
