Really? I'm lucky I would have bought a second gen turbo'd one (all factory, not a single modification) with 130K on the clock, never rebuilt if I would have sold my Impreza instead of trading it in. Dude was selling it to get a hardtop for his s2k... he used the rx7 as a dd. Ran like a freakin champ.
Most people mod the engines though which does reduce engine life causing the complaint of the engines blowing early. There are many higher mileage never rebuilt rx7's out there that run well, it's what you do or how you treat the engine.
It's like saying a 3.0 will never make it past 100k without needing a major rebuild...
But due to the tuner nature and being ran to 9k at every shift yes they are more prone to failure.
