Would this set up give me what i want???

If you really want a power increase on your 3.0, swap out your automatic for a manual. That's like ~15-30 horse freed up right there.

There's really not that much cheap to do on these vehicles. Some people may try to pass off v-8 swaps (or any engine swap for that matter) as cheap, but remember when you budget for building anything, take what you expect to spend and double or triple it. You will run into unexpected problems or find things that you forgot to take into consideration and you end up getting delayed or spending a whole lot more money.

Not to mention you're taking a gamble on how good of shape the engine is in and how long it will run properly before it needs work unless you actually rebuild the entire engine before you drop it in... and that costs a penny too.

Just somethin to think about.

Out of all the pieces on the "performance list" the only ones I would do are the gears and cam. Even with the cam I would not go wild with that either, probably something along the lines of an RV cam.

Yeah man i see what you mean. My engine is gettig old, so maby i should just save up money for a 4.0? Because im going to have to rip out the 3.0 some time.

Dose anyone know how much (around how much you think) a 4.0 would be?
Old or rebuild?
Do you guys have any websites at all of where you can find these? Because was looking around and all i found was racing engines that are around $4,500 but had 210HP! :icon_rofl:

Like I said earlier, ANY engine swap is going to require a new engine, trans, computer, and wiring harness. The 3.0 doesn't share any of those parts with any different engines, so you're kind of stuck. The cost of all of those depends on where you get the parts, and the condition they're in. Used parts would be cheaper, but it's a gamble because you don't really know how long they'll last. New or remanufactured parts would cost more up front, but give you peace of mind that they're not going to break right away.

I'd guess the cost of a 4.0 swap to be pretty close to the 5.0 swap. Either way I'd budget $1500 for all used parts-$5000 for new shiny ones. Thats assuming that you're doing the work yourself. Obviously if you take it to a shop, the labor would be insane.

Okay and from what you said about school and stuff im getting on track with classes and stuff. I work at a car shop and love it here but i know when im living withot my perents and i have to pay for EVERYTHING i need a collage job. Because when im 20 i should be making around $13.00 a hour and thats not ehoph at all! So i mean this is all in my spare time! I wanna do a swap but its the money part that is killing me! I mean it kills everyone but you know what i mean. I guess from all of this what i really want is my engine to be sounding cleaner so maby go look at her for a hour or two and replace some parts, put new fluids into her, and get a aFm intake and new exahust.
But thanks for all the help man!! :icon_thumby:
But i had a question that had nothing to do with the engine...
My local Les Swap is hiring and i think i might go work there.....
If i work there do you think they could teach me alot about suspentions, brakes, batterys, and tires and wheels??? Because i do need to learn about those parts of the car, i work at a transmition shop but im not 18 so i cant work on the cars yet i just stock shelfs and do all the boring work! I pass tools and stuff for all the older guys there!

Yeah man, I feel you on the money being tight. I'm paying for school right now, and let me tell you, $300/credit hour takes up a ton of my money. If I coudl go back in time, I'd kick my own ass, so that I'd end up with some scholarships or grants.
Its cool that you work in a shop. I grew up in shops that my dad worked in, and learned a lot just by hanging around. I even got to help with some minor stuff on a top fuel dragster one summer. Just keep doing what you enjoy! If you're smart with your money you can save up, and eventually afford the stuff you want. I'd do some searching here and over on ranger power sports for cheap popular mods along the way too. That way you can still upgrade some things from time to time, and make your truck more enjoyable to drive, without emptying your bank account.
