Would grinding rear drum brakes cause my ABS light to stay on? it turns on as soon as it rolls, I replaced the wheel speed/abs sensor and brake fluid (full flush) and it stays on.

Do you have access to a scan tool that can check that the computer is receiving sane wheel speed sensor data?

Alot of the cheap scanners do abs codes now

What year truck is it?

Rear ant-ilock or 4 wheel anti-lock? If 4 wheel... kinda sounds like a wheel speed sensor issue.

Also... if you rear brakes are grinding... fix them.

2003, rwd, no lockers, and I am replacing the brakes this week. I recently replaced the wheel speed sensor. the differential fluid is clean as well.

Just bear in mind that new parts doesn’t necessarily mean good parts. Did you use an oem sensor or aftermarket? Some of the aftermarket parts don’t behave the way you’d expect.

OEM standard could be faulty I know that tends to happen.

I'm just saying keep it in mind as you troubleshoot. I think it's happened to us all at least once. You start the wild goose chase assuming the new part is good- that's why I'd check to see if the sensor is sending good data. Personally I don't see how worn out brakes could affect the ABS module. Have you gone through the wiring to that sensor?

In 2003... these trucks are equipped with 4 wheel ABS.

I still think it sounds like a faulty wheel speed sensor. Likely one of the front wheels. Best route is to get a scan tool and look at live data to confirm.

Ah yes, I definitely should have added that- check the data from all wheel speed sensors, don't fixate on any particular one. Like I did in my response. :D
