Would a trans swap pay for itself?

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger 3.0L 2WD auto. I believe it is the 5R44E transmission. I have always wanted a manual trans vehicle. I see that the Mazda M50D-R1 trans is the compatible manual trans for my engine and drive. Would a full swap from auto to manual alomost pay for itself after selling the auto trans?

depends on the market in your area for those autos and how much the manual will cost you.
for me, just having a tranny that is way less complicated, less susceptible to temperatures, provides true engine braking, and is considerably more reliable than an auto (imho) is priceless.
but that's just me.

The 5R gives you true engine braking.

Other than that, I agree with strvger.

If your trans is in good shape, it may net you enough money to pay for a flywheel and clutch kit. Then all you need to pay for is the trans, pedals, master and slave cylinders, other small parts, and installation. :icon_rofl: A used automatic from a private seller isnt worth more than a few hundred, much less if it has any issues.

It cost me about $1,700 for the swap, with all new clutch components, a low-mileage trans, and $500 in labor. My auto trans was worth about $50 as pure scrap and salvageable parts haha.

Lucky. My swap cost me $1600 for a not-low miles trans and a week of my own labor. And Frostbite. I keep working on these things the week of Thanksgiving and getting frostbite.
