working like junk

It is either the thin wall socket or a torx head screw holding it on. You can pull the codes too and see what it says but until you get it to warm up to normal temp do the KOEO test first and address each in order lower numbers first and disconnect the battery for 15 mins every one to see if goes away. when you start it have the timing light on to see if you are losing the spark when it dies. I believe you still use EEC-IV the tech library shows you how to pull the codes and what they are for.

i dont have the computer rig to pull any codes and i dont want to trailer it to town to get it done by the shop either

you don't need a computer, you can use a test light and count the blinks.

or get a computer for 25 dollars at oreily and it'll show you the number codes.

if that doesnt fix it I bet your cat is plugged

He said the truck has no exhaust on it.

I am willing to bet that your problem is not related to the TFI module at all, but it might not hurt to swap it out just to rule it out. I would be looking at fuel pumps, but that is just speaking from experience. Usually TFI module failure is intermittent but if you have a weak pump that overheats after a couple minutes, you will consistently get symptoms like you described.
