Took a paid day off on Friday and went yard-hopping...found a good replacement diff for my 93 Ranger XLT...the ring and pinion got fried in it on a long-haul tow while relocating for job. Pulled some xtraneous scrap off the new/old diff on Saturday and Sunday...remnants from the cutting torch in the boneyard...popped the pumpkin cover open and changed the juice and resealed it. Checked with my fav old-style service station this morning on the way to work...they had time, so I left it and walked on in to work. They had it done by Noon, the wife volunteered to take me to lunch...big sandwiches and hot coffee...and back to the service station. They charged what they quoted, so Woo Hoo!! my wheels don't howl no more and I got it all done under budget. Plus I can now take off and roll wherever I want without waiting for the terminal crunch that a diff makes when it toasts itself.
Just hadda share...it's a good day in gooberville.

Now it's not nice to tell a WooHoo without specs. What did ya have & what did ya put in??

The old diff with toasted ring&pinion was 7.5 ring gear with 3.45 ratio and 10-inch brakes...new/old diff is a 7.5 ring gear with 3.73 ratio and nine-inch brakes. That's about it on specs, unless you count the homemade shock mount on the passenger side...looked like a couple pieces of barnyard iron with holes drilled in them...chuckled when I saw that in the boneyard, but it adds character I think. Maybe I'll change the speedo gear, maybe not...it's only off a little, like 3 mph over real speed at 35 and 5 mph over real speed at 60+ mph.

It won't be off by much. I think mine was off by 2 to 3 up to about 60 and then it got to about 5 or so.

On my speedo 2 to 3 MPH is the margin of error in the markings.
