Preface: Back in December of 09 i replaced the Alternator, battery. 08 the serpentine belt... I don't drive my ranger daily, as i have a commuter car to get to and from work. So it has sat for about 2 weeks.

Problem: I went to start it to drive it and when i turn the ignition past accessory, it goes dead. nothing. I figured it would be the battery, but it tested good, so i put one in from my buddies v8 ford and it started right up. I took my battery back to the store and they replaced it with a brand new one. I installed the battery and the same issue happened. I then replaced the ground battery terminal connector, and once i did that, it started right up, no problem.

Checked about 20 minutes later, to see if it would start and it reverted back to the same problem. There is a relay under the dash with the code (F57B-14B192-AA) so i went and got a new one, but it will still click once i attempt to start it and it goes silent... all but the clicking of hte relay, which will go in and out for random amounts of time.

I'm not sure what the issue is, but the two times it did start, it started with no hesitation, not a problem.

AS OF NOW: the battery is charged and the radio will work, door ding will ding, instrument panel and lights will all work appropriately, until the ignition goes past accessory.

battery good. alternator good. I haven't check the starter, but it won't even get to that point so i dont know if that is the problem. not sure about the solenoid.

I'm not a mechanic, but am mechanically inclined enough to know what i would be doing with a little instructions. The truck has about 125k and i'm the second owner...

Any help would be appreciated. I'd like to get this damn thing checked off my list, if you know what i mean. :icon_thumby:

Thanks to all in advance.

just in case anyone comes across this.

It was all due to a ground wire from the battery to the truck that wasn't completely secure. By feel it was tight, but once i put a bit of a "tug" on it, it moved completely. So make sure all grounds are tight and secure.

No, it never made the starter click.

Everything would work fine until i turned the key past "On" and forward to attempt to start the truck.

Once i fixed the ground issue, it started right up. No issue at all.

All of this was learned from a mishap on my harley. It would do the same. Everything would work that needed to work, untill you hit the starter button. Once then it would click and go dead. I found the negative on the batter of the harley to be loose and once i tightened that up, it has had no problem siince.

I just wanted to follow up on my initial question to make sure if someone comes across this same issue that you need to try the grounds first and foremost.
