Wont start when hot, But runs great.

I was not implying your head was up yoru ass, when you use phrases like more likely and less likely it implies you arent entirely sure, hence my assumption that you were guessing. sorry if I hurt your feelings. The point of a spout on DIS is exactly because you cant adjsut time. It allows you to set your cam/crank alignment without the motor trying to compensate when your not ready for it too.

AS far as the mustangs go, I have only worked on the 2.3s and 3.8s and none of the ones I have ever worked on with a distributor had a spout plug. Thats just my experience. take it or leave it.

I Checked all fuseable links and still nothing. IThink it might be relay but I dont remeber how to check it. I have power to the relay but some time and the last couple of time there wasnt. I don know if its the relay or the pickup coil. I dont know how to test them. I do know I did have power to the pickup coil.

Were you able to verify the plug wires are in the proper location? I haven't seen anyone mention this here, but you can take the ignition module out and have it tested. Be sure they test it several times and get it hot. I had one that the guy repeatedly tested for 5 minutes before it started failing.

I'm sure turboranger2.3 can verify, but I think the SPOUT can also ground out through the ignition module. I believe if it does, the truck should run without the SPOUT plugged in, and die when you plug it in.

The 94-98 3.8 liter's SPOUT is located in the mass air harness located by the passenger side strut tower. This is also the same location as the 94-95 GT. After 98, I have no experience working on Mustangs.

I'm sorry if I read into that wrong, but when you say "guessing", and "again, guessing", to me you are implying I am pulling answers out of my ass. And I guess what bugs me is that you were guilty of what you were accusing me of (guessing). Bottom line, it does have a spout.

Spout, ECM controlled timing ,uses look up tables for all the variables in timing control.

Unplugged, you set base timing to specs.

plugged in . If it dies you have a problem.

What happened . did you get spark or not.

Is it spark or fuel. Remember your stratergy.

I check and recheck that all ther wires are in the right location. The cap and rotor came from auto zone. The rotor, the new one had way too much play. The hole that is in the bottom that goes on the shaft was too big to start. I ran out of money but will buy a new cap and rotor that is a better one than the auto zone one that I got. Right now Im using the old rotor to try to get it going (Motorcraft). As for the sprout,I do have one and I dont think that it is that. I followed the power that is what Im doing. the only things left to do is relay,(I was told the are the same so Im going to try to swap them out) the pickup coil, Bad new cap and rotor( Witch I know for sure the rotor is bad) and just some wire grounding out.

Dont buy a new one if you can avoid it. Take it back and exchange it. get online and look up the ford part numbers before you ever get to the store. and make sure you have the right stuff. Dude prolly hada brain fart and gave you the worng part.

Dumb question, but are you sure it's the rotor with play? If the dizzy shaft has play it could stir up some shit as well.

basically...almost every ford ive worked on 2.3 3.8 2.9 4.9 5.0 all have spout connectors, period, the spout connector on the 2.9 is in a odd place, its on the passenger side of ur upper intake manifold, about middle if i remember correctly

if u like i can look up the wiring for each engine and show u in the diagrams where the spout connectors are for future reference

If I wanted diagrams I know well enough where to find them. I trust what your saying, all I said was your wording sounded Unsure.

Like I said it was based on my experiences, take it or leave it.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but have we confirmed fuel pressure during the no-start?

I just finished diag on a 99 Taurus today that had a very similar concern. Fuel pump won't run after it gets hot. It runs great until you get the car hot and then shut it off for an hour or so.
