Wont start....hmmmmm

I bought a manual today when I made my 90th trip to the parts store lol. I found where the wires have been cut and spliced so it should be a fairly easy fix, but we will see how it goes. I did have to cut the main wiring to splice in for the O2 sensor to extend the wires so the original plug will be where it needs to be, and after I did that it started running like crap again, but I guess when I get the exhaust redone and get the O2 sensor back in it will straighten out some, I hope anyway!!

Disconnect the battery for 15 mins every time you change of fix a sensor to reset the computer then run it in all gears till it gets good and warm to set the new values, It could be running on old values. Then erase the memory and run the codes again allways fix the lower numbers first as thew can throw false codes down the line. Sounds like your getting there tho GL

Did you ever determine what caused the smoking wire? Bad connections? Bad starter?

Awesome! So it was the solenoid huh? I'm thinking about getting a new starter solenoid myself for a reason similar to yours. Good to know!

It turned out that the solenoid had a crack in it and the wire for the starter had a spot in it that was grounding out, so it was a combination of the two. Now, after running the truck for awhile this morning it dosent wanna start, it is getting spark and getting fuel, and it is cranking over just fine, but dosent wanna hit at all. Guess I will have to start going back threw everything and rechecking again!!

Pull the codes now that you have a manual all you need is a light or voltohm meter or you can get a code reader at any part store for cheap. Did you disconnect the battery for 15 mins then take it for a test drive thru all the gears at medium speeds till the engine got good and warm. You need to do that every time you change or clean a sensor.

yeap, disconnected the battery for 15 minutes or longer and the truck wouldnt start afterwards. I will see about getting a code reader for it and see what comes up. Is it an OBD1 port I am guessing?
