Wa Wa WHAT? Yeah I just ran into this weird problem... The thing wont idle for and when you put it in gear and try to accelerate it bucks and snorts! But turn on the headlights and walla! The idle speed picks up and it smoots right out! Weird! Only thing I can think of it has something to do with loading up the alternator????? Oh yeah I've modified this little 2.3L pretty heavily its a racer walsh short block the long rod short block and its got a esslinger ford SVO aluminum head and oversized valves and crower cam...... I just ended up reconnecting the EGR tube putting the 14lb injectors back in had tried 22s.
I think the TPS probably needs some adjusting as I've got it idling at 1400 right now.... It runs like a raped ape from 3000 all the way up to 6500. Oh yeah I had just added a MSD 6A also......... Hmmmmmm That was a pretty simple mod the power wire is hooked up to the hot side of the selenoid and the rest is just spliced in between the coil and the coil connector... But tha was the last mod that was made before this pesky head light idle thing! Uh anyone else ever seen something like this?:icon_confused:

Adjusted TPS

Ok I adjusted the TPS this morning I was never able to get the voltages mentioned in the tech section but I had a old TPS and connected my OHM meter up to the same to wires shown in the tech article and measured the resistance with no deflection of the sensor it was .6 ohms and with full deflection it rose to over 4 ohms so I used that as a reference and disconnected the TPS that was on my throttle body and connected to the same two wires and measured .9 ohms I adjusted it down to .6 wich coincedently was the limit of the adjustment left in the thing. Hooked it back up and it idled back up at 2,000 of course only with the head lights / or parking lights on. With out the lights on it becomes very erratic hunting I think is the technical term and the RPM varies as much as 500 rpm over all but as soon as you pull the light switch out it smoots out! Another thing is that as I said before it wants to idle at 2,000 rpm all the time unless you've been sitting at a light for awhile then all off a sudden it drops to around 1300rpm .... I'm thinking that this is the EGR valve finally opening? Uh so if this is true why the hell do I need this thing hooked up? It appeared to cause this animal to run rich without it connected. I may disconnect it again just for fun and see what happens this time. Oh I also found 2 small exhaust leaks on the exhaust pipe just about 10 inches down from the manifold connection. Wich brings me to the 02 sensor uh we had to relocate it off of the exhaust manifold as it supposedly needs to be pretty close to the CAT for a proper reference and cat pre-heat? So yeah I got a lot going on here. :shok:

You have a grounding problem that will cause al sorts of wierd problems.Check and tighten the ground wire between the block and the chassis. clean and tighten all other grounds

Weird Idle and intermittent Miss

Thanks I imagine I created that problemwhen I wired up the MSD box I used a existing ground on the firewall..... But I didnt ohm it out to see if it was any good. It runs fine as long as you keep the headlights on. There is a annoying miss every once in awhile while keeping a steady speed. I just havent had anytime to check it out again. But that shouldnt take to long to fix. Thanks again.:icon_cheers:
