2.3L manual trans.

Runs pretty good, smooth idle no CEL. After a 20min trip down the road if I turn truck off for the length of time to say pump a tank of gas it will not start. I have to wait 5min or so before it will crank again.

Replaced Fuel Filter when I first noticed this and that didn't correct issue. Brother thinks maybe its the catalytic converter. IDK. It doesn't have a bad odor, and it isn't glowing when hot.

Any suggestions? Luckily I can remove my key from the ignition when its running so I can lock the doors and leave running if I'm going to be going in someplace for only a moment. But I would rather be able to turn it off and have it crank back up like it should.

I think what you are saying is it will Crank over but not start. next time it ha;pens have starter fluid available and spray some into the throttle body. let us know if it starts

Can you get at the the connector that goes to your fuel pump on top of the tank? Check witha voltmeter to see that you have 12v (at least) on the Pink wire. If you do, check the pins to see if they are loose. If you find one that's loose, then you've likely found your problem. You may have to pull the sending unit out and check the pump as well.

OK, I'll pick up some starter fluid and keep it on hand for the next time it happens. Seems pretty reliable at being able to reproduce the issue.

Turns out it is also heat related. past couple of days has been cooler temp wise 70s and 80s (due to storms) then 90s and 100s. Doesn't seem to happen during the cooler temps.

UPDATE YOUR PROFILE SO IT LOOKS LIKE MIINE

it is probably the icm=ignition control module. if you replace it makes sure you put all the small ground screws back in. also there is a special heat grease that you put on it before installing it...................

@modelageek Updated Profile, where do I find the icm? Quick search on the net from work yielded three different places.

Is their a way to test it before replacing it?

follow the wires from the coil back to the ICM. go to rockauto.com and you will see what it looks like. you can have an autoparts test it but make sure they test it a bunch of times and it still might not be reliable becasue your seems to have the issue when it is hot.......

The ignition control module is located on the lower intake manifold facing you as you look under the hood.
Looks like a little gray plastic plate bolted to the lower half of the intake. Look where the upper and lower intake meet and you will see it starring at ya. :-)

OK. After almost a month of wanting it to act up so I can try a few of these things it finally did it. I swapped the Relay for the A/c And the Fuel Pump and it started right up. So I've just replaced the fuel relay and will hopefully not have this issue pop up again.

I swear I was starting to think the fix was wanting it to happen again.
