I've decided to junk the 2.9 in my B2 and install a 4L out of a 94 explorer I bought this summer.

Does anyone know if I can use the entire harness from the explorer.... Engine, engine compartment and cab harness?

Or do I need to mix and match? If so what part of the B2 harness do I need to leave in place?

Thanks for your help...

IIRC your best bet would be to find a harness out of an 89-92 Ranger with a 4.0L and use engine and computer harness, it should plug right into your dash/interior harness and be plug an play.

You'll probably be cutting and splicing any other way.

I pulled the hood on the explorer to begin the engine swap. I noticed the explorer has ABS and a few other goodies I would like in my B2. What problems if any would I run into buy simply (simply, ya OK) swapping the entire explorer wiring harness into the B2?

One other reason I have for wanting to use the full Explorer harness is, I have gremlins in my wiring I think due to mice nibbling at my wiring under the dash.......... I need to address that at sometime why not now while I have the dash off...

Thanks

Well, if you're gonna do the whole harness in an out, might as well go for it. I'd strip the interior of the BII enough to get the old harness out, but instead of just ripping the harness out, unplug each piece of the old harness and plug the new one in, just so you don't get things mixed up, if you know what i'm sayin.

What I've done so far is, on the explorer, first I took a load of pictures, then I pulled the entire engine compartment harness away from wherever it was attached and hung it on the motor. I tried not to unplug anything and if I did I labeled it. I disconnected the main bus between the cab and the engine compartment. I pulled the dash out of the Explorer (that goes back in the Bronco) I've had the B2 dash out a few times, I kinda now my way around it somewhat. The two seem similar although the Explorer dash seems better built.

I've disconnecting the drive shaft. I'll separate the trans and transfer case sometime this week. Then I'll pull the motor and trans together. I want to pull the motor and trans still attached, is that possible without cutting the rad support?

Thank,

Wasp

The motor and trans can be pulled out without cutting the rad support, IIRC....

But it's not easy to do. Last time I helped do something like that we didn't bother with the engine hoist, we used a chainfall from the I-beam in the garage an had three guys yanking and shaking the truck until it came free.

Only major difference that I have heard of, is the tail light harness. The explorer runs inside the cab. The B2 runs along the frame.

If you swap the dash then the tail light area should be the only splice area you would need to look at.
