Does anyone know a good online source for wiring diagrams? Or do I need to go buy a book. I need to trace/follow the ignition system in my truck.

Ok. geez. I found one.

Now, does anyone know what it means on the diagram when it says "Solid State?" An item in the diagram is labeled as such.

I am trying to trouble shoot an intermittent no start, so I am looking at the Ignition diagram. In the middle of the diagram There is a rectangle labeled solid state sitting right next to the distributor and TFI

I'm guessing that it's saying the TFI and Distributor only have solid state components - like no points, capacitor etc. as in the old days. That makes sense to me anyway.

That makes sense. Looking at the diagrams closer, I think that's what it is. It is being labeled as the TFI AND as being solid state.

Before you get into all the wiring go simple, check your battery leads for internal corrosion. That was my problem.

That was the first thing I did. There is very little corrosion anywhere on this truck.

After two hours of frogging around I seem to be narrowing it down to the yellow wire that runs from the starter relay box by the battery to the EEC Relay to the computer, but I better put this on the thread dedicated to figuring this junk out. :D

I am, however going to flat out replace the negative cable. It has seen better days.

My corrosion problem was similar, I had cleaned my cables. but the corrosion was inside the wire. Until i used a pair of pliars to touch teh terminal and a point higher up on the cable I couldnt find the problem. I went through a solenoid and two starters. But loose eec wire could do it too.

I replaced that wire last night and made sure all the grounds were san ded to clean bare metal and fixed an iffy looking transmission sensor wire and checked out the half of the harness that goes to the TFI. All of that looks pretty dang good. Today I am going to check out the ignition wires on the steering column and make sure it all looks ok there.
