My buddy bought a 2001 explorer cause his sis rolled his prev 2001 explorer 3 days ago. Anyway when i looked at it after he bought it i realized that the 4.0 in it looked exactly like the one in my 2001 ranger not his rolled 2001 explorer. Ok problem is he bought it & thought the alternator was bad because it wasnt charging,he bought a new one put it in and same thing not charging. Since he works for oreillys we took it back checked it & its fine. All of the wiring looks fine & I discovered the yellow/wht strp wire has a constant 12V & there is continuity from alt to battery. my question is if i wanted to wire the alt like a switched source to the exciter what wire do i use there is a green/red strp & a wht/blk strp wire. what wires would i use to wire to a switched source to get the alternator to charge? Any info appreciated

we just had that problem when we did the 4.0l swap in my buddy's 87 ranger it is the green/red and just tap it into any keyed hot wire (we did it to the fuel pump wire and it works great)
