wire on oil pan

I am putting a engine from a 96 4.0 explorer in my 94 4x4 ranger. Have both engine out and am swapping wiring harnesses and sensors as needed, there is a wire coming out of oil pan on drivers side of the 94 and there is no wire on the 96 does any body know what this wire is? It is white with a pink stripe. cannot find anything about it in chilton manual wiring diagrams. thanks for any help :dunno:
 
That is probably the oil level sensor. When the oil level gets below the sensor, a light comes on the dash warning you the oil level is low.

The sensor is screwed into the oil pan, it should look like this.

That is it!thanks for you quick response, I take it I can leave it disconnected since I really don't want to change oil pans

Yeah you can leave it disconnected, just make sure to keep an eye on your oil level. :icon_thumby:
