anyone come accross a rubber seal/trim that may be universal that can take the place of the metal trim around the front windshield of the first gen's?

Take a piece of your trim to a local body shop they might can help you out. They deal with broken windshields alot

You could do some measurments and look around ford parts and other websites too see if they have a rubber one that fits those dimensions.

good ideas... may check into those... i was trying to see also if there was a rubber seal that uses the stock mounting stubs on the windshield area of the truck...

i wanted to actually replace the metal trim with the more modern rubber trim.

Are all of your clips gone ?

Thinking why not OEM trim ?

LMC truck may have that option too.Just a thought

well after some research here is what i found... i wanted to go towards the more modern rubber trim because i have a leak that hopefully is fixed now in the passenger top corner.

but with trying to service the leak, the trim obvously got alittle bent and i just dont like the metal trim and then while putting it back on the outmost "stud" broke off... but i think it'll be ok for now.

i do have a few chips in my windshield so my wife was wanting me to get it replaced anyways... so thats when i started to venture into the idea for my trim...

so what i found is this stuff you can google if you want... flexitrim... i found a whole 5 page discussion about replacing the metal trim with the newer rubber trim on a 4 Runner forum the other night and thats when i really found head way...

basically the windshield has the flexitrim install on it prior to installation on the vehicle and then the windshield is installed.

so basically the flexitrim just bridges the gap between the raised part of the body and the windshield... the same thing that the metal pieces do.

heres the thread for the toyota

http://www.yotatech.com/f116/eliminating-metal-windshield-trim-aka-rust-maker-107858/

and if you take the time to read it, i believe page 5 someone says that safelite actually carries this stuff also... so im gonna make a call to them today and inquire about it. the only issue that the person that used safelite had was that the bottom cowl piece was too narrow, so he purchased a wider piece

in that thread theres also a person that uses a garage wiper seal from home depot in a sort of DIY way to do it by themselves...

i hope this helps anyone else with wanting to update or fix their trim on their ranger...

heres a big roll on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CREATIVE-75...ies&hash=item3cce7a4af0&vxp=mtr#ht_109wt_1158

it really shows how the small "channel" is where it gets secured to the windshield and then you can see the big "flap" area that would bridge the gap between the windshield and the truck body, essentially taking the need away for the metal trim...
