well i am sorry to say is no way to change the wall paper in the starter edition.
unless you have more then basic computer knowledge. for i have found one way that you need to do some modifications to the windows directory so if your computer knowledge is more then basic i will let you know how to. if not then the only other way is for you to buy the Windows 7 Home Premium via Windows Anytime Upgrade. sorry.

I haven't worked with Winderz 7 much yet, but an old trick we used to do is instead of making the program change what it does, let it THINK it's doing what it's supposed to be doing.

Somewhere there has to be a file that is the MS Graphic, find out where that file is and replace it with your own graphic but use the name that MS uses for theirs.

I don't know if that will work with "7", but it sounds logical.

I did this to the windows 95 splash screen years ago. instead of windows 95, I had it show a picture of Gillian Anderson.

I agree this will be the best route short of getting an upgrade, which might not even be available because you are outside of the US/Canada

thats just what i did, i saw on a forum that that way i was able to replace it, but instead i got a black screen, dunno why

Hmmm, they may have put checks on it to see if it's the same size etc.. Kind of petty but we are talking about Micro$oft. Whats wrong with a black background? I use that by default anyway LOL.

well i was used to put pics ofcool trucks and my truck on wallpaper, but the black is growin i might get usd to it , but i would like to know how to restore it

i know nothing about windows 7 but alienware makes a program for that i believe...

You might want to consider running dual OSes. You can run Ubuntu Linux as a primary, which will be much, much faster than Windows, but have windows available for those times when Linux doesn't cut it. It all depends on how computer savvy you are, but Ubuntu is extremely easy to switch over to.

You're wallpaper location is:
%windir%\web\wallpaper\windows\img0.jpg

As an administrator, modify the file permissions so you can overwrite it, find your favorite picture and name it img0.jpg and past it there.

Simple.
