When I roll the driver side window down than up again. a nice scratch appears on the out side of it from top to bottom about 5/8s of the way from the front of the window.
It is a hand crank type window on a 1997 standard cab Ford Ranger. Before I get started, does any one know what the problem might be ?
Thanks in advance.

Most likely caused by dirt and debris (usually sand) getting imbedded in the window scraper (rain seal). Had that problem on my 84 windows scratched all to hell. I replaced the all the window seals (scrapers and track felts), and had good glass for it but never got around to replacing it before totaling the truck.

Turned out being a small stone under the the weather strip like you said.
Thanks

Gald I could help.
