window motor problems

i have a 1990 ranger with power windows. and the power option only works when the doors are open.

any ideas

i am thinking that there is a short or a chaffed wire on the harness coming through the door. but it is for both doors.

Sounds like youo do have a broken wire in the area where the door opens. That should be an easy one to find but a pain to get to. You can always take the fender off to access it easier.
