I'm going to be installing new door speakers on my 90' ranger soon and I've ran into some trouble getting the window cranks off. I did a search and it says there should be some screw cover that i can pop off to access the mounting bolt, but I don't seem to have one, the crank is all one solid piece. My friend told me I should be able to find a C clip holding them on, but I've no such luck finding it either. My next option is to just pry them off, but I want to make sure there isn't some other method to get them off before i go and break something. Anyone know the right way to get them off?

There is a torx screw under the outer cover on the crank. Just lift up on the cover by where it mounts to the door and once it clears the inner twist it out of the way. The screw is set way in there and the best way I found was to use a one piece torx driver. If you need I can send you a picture later today.

To get the cover off, I usually get a flat head screw driver and lay it flat underneath the base of the crank, down where it attaches to the "spindle" inside the door itself. Then very gently turn the screw driver to create a prying motion. It pops off quite easily, and you just pull it away and move it to the side to reveal the torx screw (the cover won't come all the way off). You won't damage anything if you are careful.

Hopefully this makes sense.

alright i think i got it, ill try it later today. Thanks

Stick a screwdriver in here and pry out:

Then twist the piece around that popped out:

Then remove with a T20

If you want a good upgrade, find an 89 (or later) Ford Tempo and use the window cranks from them...I find they are better than the ones on the older Rangers...was always getting my skin pinched in the knob on the Ranger cranks, but the Tempos have a bigger plastic knob...(and I think Gen III Rangers have them too)

There are a few different ones in Tempos, and I don't have a pic...but the ones I used have a plastic cover that pops up near the base and swivels out so you can get at the screw...just don't pry that cover too much because I broke one of mine...and that reminds me of another part I have to go find...lol
