Winches?

IMO if you're going to buy a winch. It needs to be a warn. You get what you pay for. I personally would get the M8000. (which i have). its stronger and faster than the above posted Superwinch and can be had in the same price range if you shop around. Its also about 40lbs lighter (according the websites specs) Has a stronger motor, higher duty cycle, lower gearing and faster loaded line speed.

My vote is for the Warn8000, I use the crap out of mine and it has never given me a problem in the time ive owned it.

Ill keep my smittybilt, it has treated me better than my old 8000 ever did 2 times faster and does not get near as hot.

My old Cherokee had a Milemarker Hydraulic. I can't remember the model number but that thing kicked ass.

must of been something wrong with your warn. Should have had it serviced.

I looked up and compared both winches. The xrc8 has a bigger motor and higher gear ratio (5.5hp and 173:1 for xrc8 vs 4.8hp and 216:1 for m8000) The loaded line speeds are nearly identical. But the smittybilt has a lower duty cycle.... So your warn definitly probably had something wrong with it.

Rating are ratings not practical application,

I had the warn rebuilt by factory when I installed it on my jeep XJ. it lasted 6 pulls before it died. I sent it in they wanted the cost of another new one to rebuild it, would not cover their warranty becasuse I "used" it.

I replaced it with the XRC8 and have used in nearly 100 times before I sold the XJ. The Smittybilt is an excellent winch, I feel it is as good or better than the entry level Warn winches.

Hi Lift 7500 lb pull farm jack with 215 lb ass moving the handle. Works every time, motor never gave out, always pulls at a constant rate. I haven't even broke the shear pin in one even used on 3/4 ton fords, chevys, dodges, a 73 landcruiser on 38s, and who only knows what else. Oh also unstuck a HMMWV in Germany that was sitting on the frame. Wanna talk about slow, Hi lift jack, but it never fails. Oh snapped a chain or two, a cable, and a tow strap. Coming home with some MRAP chains! I want to find something that'll break those! HAHA

Oh, I also forgot, been many places and never seen any entrance requirements "winch required" have seen Hi lift jack required or highly recommended. That should tell ya something right there, no matter who you are.
When your winch burns out, give me a call, put down the remote control, get outa the cab, wrap your soft girly hands around this Hi lift handle, and grunt and groan like a man. Damn that shit outa go into that song about creamy lotioney hands and grippin a tackle box!

The bolt pattern is the same, 10"x4.5" but it is on the front not the bottom.

Thats kinda what I meant......does not bolt in the same.....I had one on an XJ for awhile and the height cause my jeep to overheat........

I have said smittybilt 8K winch. If you have the money go with a warn or superwinch, but if you dont the smittybilt is just fine. I've had mine for a year now and used a handful of times, and it works great and does what I need it to do. Best bang for your buck. You could buy two smittybilts with same money it takes to buy a warn.....as far as longevity who knows.

After months of research and pricing I ordered a winch last week, it should be here some time this week. I got it to mount on the front of my 25’ Gooseneck trailer for pulling tractors, trucks, or anything else I want up on the trailer.
I got a Mile Marker brand 8,000# with 100’ of 5/16 cable and I paid $30 extra for the lifetime warranty and also added a 16.5K snatch block. The total bill was $328 for winch, warranty, snatch block and shipping. I got it form http://www.4wheelparts.com/mile-marker-winch.aspx which was second on Mile Markers list of authorized dealers. I called them and got way better pricing than what’s on their website.
Now to wait for it then install it then the true test with the 6,500# JD tractor single line.

that is a decent winch depending on the exact unit, the issue is speed, I hope you have 10 or 15 minutes to pull that tractor onto the trailer LOL

Here is the one I got coming;
http://www.milemarker.com/pdf_downloads/sec8_specs.pdf

At maximum weight limit it is rated for 10.8 fpm, so if my trailer is 25’ and ramps are about 5’ then add a little so call it 32.4 feet total pull length and calling it a full 8,000# max pull the whole time it would take all of 3 minutes. Of course it would not be at near max pull except going up the ramps or in yalls case coming out of the ruts so it would be a lot faster most of the length.
I guess it all boils down to which you got more of, time or money.
Me personally, I want it to move relatively slow so that I can watch what’s going on and make sure nothing hangs up or gets unstable.

My winch still hasn’t come in yet but the snatch block came in and it is really heavy duty and I’m impressed. Here is a pic of it on a full size sheet of paper.

Here is how far I made it with the first winch I bought, a 3,000# $70 cheapo;
