I'm going to assume that you don't have a PTO. So I would say, no, it won't work for you.

In most cases, a pto winch is driven using a hydraulic pump which is turned by the transmission using a Power Take Off assembly. Could you make the winch wrk, well sure you could. Would you spend well in excess of the initial $350 dollars that the guy wants for it, most definately. Keep your eye out for an electric powered winch, a much more straight forward, cheap, and easy installation.

thanks... what pound winch would u suggest for a 95 single cab, short bed, sas, v8? i was thinking 9000LB but then i saw the wieght of a stock ranger and im thinkin more of like 4000 or 5000

no ..... your better off with 9000 pound....... personally I would go 12,000

yeh i know bigger the better but the cheapest 9000lb winch is like $600 and i cant spend that must on a winch

They say that 1.5 times the weight of the truck is a good minimum rating. I would also be looking at 9,000 lb min.

remember your not just pulling the weight of the truck out, but also you have to overcome forces from incline, mud, rocks, suction etc etc so really 1.5 times is the bare minimum i would go. 4000lb truck, plus many different forces, friction etc etc it can easily get up to 10,000lb and beyond just for a little ranger..........this is one of those things you dont want to skimp on as it is dealing with SAFETY. I'd go a 9,000lb or larger if you can stand it. smittybilts are good....not great but they get the job done for a reasonable price.
