ok so im gonna be building a bumper for my exploder. it will need to hold my 9K warn winch. should i buy a plate and tie it into my bumper? or make my own. i was thinking of bolting it to the frame with gread 8 hardware then welding around the plate thats beaing bolted to the frame.

dont weld to the frame.. grade 8 hardware will be PLENTY. i have 3 1/2 grade 8 bolts holding my bumper to the frame an ive pulled off it plenty of times.. if anything id build a custom bumper.. their awesome because YOU made it nothing factory about it.

If you have the materials and equipment at hand, do the cusom bumper. Everything the way you want it, "sturdy and purdy"
I agree with Destroyer000, dont weld to the frame, It's not necessary. Typically, under stress, a weld will break before a bolt would shear anyway. Plus, if you want to modify the bumper later on, you'll be glad you dont have to take a grinder to the frame to get it off.

ok thanks destroyer.

i was thinking of makeing one like my dad helped me build for my 90

i could make this work

I used a winch plate that came with the winch when I built one for a fullsize bronco, but when i built my own I used a piece of channel iron. My bumper's held to my truck via 4 5/8" grade 8 bolts and I haven't had an issue yet.

Im doing the same thing. Got a winch plate and will be welding dom tube to form the bumper/stinger. Cut the mounting plates off and use them as a template for your new frame attachements. I wouldnt tie anything in to the stock bumper as it is weak and will bend or break when it hits something out on the trail.
