Hello all I have posted this question in 4 banger thread but thought I'd try here as well. I have a 86 ranger just rebuilt engine and have ordered a weber 32/36 progressive carb kit for it as I did not like the aisian 2brl that was on it and it was trashed anyway. I do not need to etest so that is not a issue. The aisian carb would freeze up in winter if the heat pipe was not used. I am wondering if the weber will freeze up since it comes with a open style breather. I might have to fabricate a carb surround to accommodate a couple heat pipes. Just wondering if anyone is running a weber carb on there mazda 4cyl trucks in cold climates.

bowtie,
I am using a 32/36 on an 88 B2200 and I have not had any problems. But, the cold here (Western WA) is not bad. It is humid in the winter. Its not a dd so....... I'm not much help.

Go here http://www.mazdatrucking.com/forum/index.php and ask your question again. There are a ton of guys on the east side of the country and in Canada running the Weber and they will fall all over themselves to help you. One FYI, make sure you get a "real" Weber and not a china knockoff. I know Redline sells the real thing in their kits.

Thanks enjr44 even if your winter climate is not quite as cold as we get here in southern Ont I appreciate your advice. I ordered the carb thru carbs unlimited and it is the redline weber brand so I should be good there. I will also check the link you supplied.

Might not be relevent but many years ago in a different country and on a different motor I ran a 28/36 (same carb but smaller primary) and without the heat it would ice up when the weather turned cold and humid.

Yeah, ice is ice, it doesn't care what it's on. Any carb will ice when the conditions get right.

Well thanks for all replies it looks like I'll be fabricating a surround so it will draw most of the air from the exhaust side and also attach a heat tube. I was unsure if running a open air style breather rather then factory breather that draws in air from fenders or rad support would be better or worse. I guess I'll fab one to save the hassle.
