Ok so i found this

1996 explorer v8. Its automatic.
I have a manual 1994 xlt 3.0.
Will this work? Can i make my truck auto or can i just find a new manual transmission, and will the computer from the explorer work for manual?

Well, first off, try here (Sorry, but the right spot attracts people with better information)

Will it work? SURE! But that all depends on you (ok yeah, that was a bit of a smart-arse response, sorry again). I think the computer will complain if you just unhook the transmission and it has nothing to monitor, BUT, I don't know much about the computer end of things. As a 1996 I bet it's OBD II, and it'll want transmission functions though. You could make it a manual, with the proper other components for a 5.0L, but if you don't mind an automatic, leave the entire Explorer drivetrain as it is and swap it all right over, piece by piece. Just remove the 3rd pedal in the Ranger. Easiest and simplest route. The farther you go from stock, the more expensive and complicated it gets. Don't treat the new drivetrain as different for the Ranger, treat it as different from the Explorer (if you're swapping transmissions), as it's really the Explorer's components you're messing with at that point.

I'm sure others will chime in more about the auto-manual computer issues.
