Will the older M50D-R1 trannys bolt up to the newer rangers?

I am going to find a tranny from the junk yard, and I was wondering if I could get a tranny from say a 90's ranger and swap it into my 96' ranger with no problems. All the plugs for the electrical are the same? Please if anyone can shed some light on this, I would really appriciate it! Thanks

90 to 97 transmissions are the same. 98+ I think started the HDs, which are slightly different but can be made to work.
