Will seafoam help clean out oil screen?

My valvetrain started ticking pretty badly today and im guessing its the oil screen. My friend suggested that seafoam will help clear it up. Is this true? (im trying to avoid having to pull the oil pan as much as possible)

the can says that it "reduces sludge and adds lubricity" when added to the crankcase. so i would lean to yes, it might help clean out the screen. on a sidenote, i'm pretty sure they invented the word "lubricity" though, i dont recall seeing that anywhere. so maybe wait til some others give their opinion.

Why not just throw some in oil and see what happens. While ur at it do the other parts. Mine actually runs smoother after using but some get no results. All depends.

I'm actually about 100 miles past changing my oil with it in.

do i have to change the oil after i run it through? I just changes it a few days ago too :bawling:

ATF works pretty good also, put 1/2 a quart in and run it at medium speeds for about 100 miles. Put motorcraft filter on it and some 10w30 and see if it helps. ATF is cheaper lubricates good and is high detergent and will clean the upper end good also. If your oil is full drain off a little before adding anything. If your curious how well it works whatever you use do a oil change with additive and filter and see how quick the oil gets dirty. The filter should be the tell all

I was due for one so I timed it well. People say 100-300 miles is farthest till u change oil u should go. The brake booster hose is where u pour in 1/3 can. Some due while running, I did with engine off but let it sit there for 10 mins. Started up it ran rough. Many threads on this that will go farther then I know about it. They say a full can when gas is maybe 1/4-1/8 tank. That way it cleans 3 diff ways.

Idk none of that Lucas additive crap did anything for me but this was good.

would I have to worry about the risidual ATF after I empty it out and put new oil in? I know a lubricant is a lubricant, but just to be sure.

Naw there will be very little Atf left after you drain it out good keep the plug off for half a hour or so let it drip good.

If your engine hold oil good using a good synthetic oil wouldnt hurt either, if you have small leaks it will leak more with synthetic oil.

ok well i seafoamed it and emptied 1q of oil and poured in some marvel mystery oil. I also got a mechanican gauge hooked up. It's reading 0psi and the oil just slowly crawls up the line rather than shooting up like its supposed to. strangely enough the ticking noise is gone. But i guess this now means that there is only a little oil getting to the top, not nearly as much as it needs. luckily i got some friends down south with the right tools.

Hmm personally I've been wondering the same thing, only my truck doesn't really need the oil treatment as far as i know. I have heard others say it works for cleaning out everything in the engine, but the downside is all that stuff will try to pass through the oil pump and thus the pickup screen may get clogged...so kinda sounds counter intuitive.

I got ths stuff at AUTOZONE the other night -MAHKANIKINAKAN- YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR IT AS IT IS SO POTENT THEY MUST KEEP IT BEHIND THE COUNTER
