will not go into 5th gear

'93 3.0 m5od, what is the most common reason will not go into 5th, all other gears are beautiful, can even slip shift up and down. after rebuild and reassembly (on jack stands) started up and put thru motions 1st - 4th. road test - shifter will go all the way until releasing of clutch at which time slips back out. thoughts, comments, suggestions.

I know exactly what you did......There is a "Ball Bearing" that goes in the lower cluster gear shaft. It keeps the gear from spinning on the shaft. You left the ball out and it slides itself out of 5th after you put it in.

The nice thing is that you don't need to remove the transmission to fix this. I did a swap from a 3.0 case to a 4.0 case for BrayD and I forgot the ball bearing. He dropped the transfercases and I took the back end of the trans apart and fixed it while it was still in the truck. Not hard to do.
