will an 86 fit in an 84? please

my 84 tranny said poopy, and i have an 86 with a 5spd with od, can i swap the 86 into the 84? bein they are both 5 speeds i don't know if there is an issue. anyone got some info? thank you!

look in the tech library here in TRS. they have good pics of the trannies. as long as the one you are using matches the one coming out. good to go. i think the patterns are the same in all the 1st gen trucks. i'm running a 5 spd out of an '85 b2 in mine. big improvement over the original 4 spd. good luck.
