will a m5od work on a 2.8?

like the title says will it work with a 10 inch clutch and flywheel? i would like to rebuild a 2.8 and swap everything else in my truck with a 8.8 and d35 with newer trasfercase and all.

2.8, 2.9 and 4.0L all share the same bellhousing bolt patterns.

Get one from a 4.0 cause the ratios are closer to the FM145 or the FM146.

ummmm no, wrong......the gear ratios arent closer for a 4.0 trans, if anything u want a m50dr1 that came behind a 2.9 (only a couple years) they have almost identical gearing to a fm145-6

or get a 4.0 m5 and use 2.3 internals for lower gearing. u can also use the 4.0 m5od with 2.8 flywheel, clutch, and use the same year slve cyl. then u can use your current starter

the m50dr1 that came behind the 4.0 is not geared as deep as a m50dr1 that came behind any other engine....it says so in the first section of what ur trying to tell me proves me wrong,,,,

If you take the 1st gear, you need to take EVERYTHING. Bearing to bearing. There are subtle differences in the internals. They will work in the new case, but they need to go in as a set.

its kinda like a ring&pinion set, its all matched as a set. yea u might could get by with just replacing one thing, but u are playing russian rulette. sooner or later somethings gotta go

btw if u read the chart it doesnt match up line for line with the applications. it says:

3.40 / 2.05 / 1.31 / 1.00 / 0.79 (4.0L Engines)
3.72 / 2.20 / 1.50 / 1.00 / 0.79 (All Other Engines)

how much more self explanatory can it be?
