Will a 99 4.0 transmission fit behind a 91 2.9 engine?

Hi,

I have a buddy who is going to give me a 99 4.0 tranny to put behind my 91 ranger with a 2.9. I know in previous years that you could just swap them over. Is it the same with the 99?

Fit and bolt up, sure.

If it's an auto, there may be more work involved in making it function.

Oh, and there will be an unused hole at the 2:00 position if the 99 has a SOHC in it. I don't think the Rangers got those until 01 though.
