will a 8.8 rear end work

i have a chance to buy a 8.8 rear end with 4.10 gears out of a 2003 ranger will it fit in my 00 3.0 with the 7.5 and 373 gears cause i was told my rear is blown also what will be the difference on hooking up the speed sensor and do i have to change a lot of thing to make it fit or will it just bolt up thanks
or i also have a chance to get a stock rear from a 96 ranger which will be easier and better thanks

You are going to need 4.10 front gears too or you are going to destroy your transfer case the first time you put it in 4x4

2003 to 2000 should be a pretty bolt in project.

The VSS is just a magnet that is bolted in at the top of the diff housing. They're interchangable between many if not all of the RVBs.

You'll enjoy the 4.10s, especially if you've got the 3.0.
When I upped from 4.10s to 4.30s and 31 to 35" tires I didn't notice much of a speed difference.

Some will say you should have it corrected. I've heard you can only do it 5 times on the Rangers.


I'd say go for the ocho.ocho out of the 03, but give it a good checking over first.

and for the thread go 8.8, it a little stronger then the 7.5. but not as good as the explorer 8.8

With a dropped 2wd 3.0L I doubt he is gonna even be breaking a 7.5 an 8.8 will be fine.

i actually did blow the 7.5 rear thats why i need to get a new one cause i was told mines blown and my truck is a 2wd i will update my profile thanks

What are you waiting for? Get it and bolt it up. Get that 7.5 crap outta there.

You'll love the 4.10s, but your speedometer will have to be recalibrated.

Your local dealer will be able to fix your speedo.

If you have an auto, it must be done. The tranny functions according to the VSS output.

well i was told it was blown cause it shakes the truck and someone looked at it and said there was to much movement in my spider gear and thats what was causing the vibration does this sound correct

also most of the shaking is felt through the clutch pedal

Make sure you get the coupler off the back of the driveshaft too, or you're going to have an unpleasant surprise when you try to hook your driveshaft from the truck with the 7.5 up to the 8.8 axle. Sway bars (if you have one) are different too. Other than that, it's mostly a drop-in.
