My story. recently got 2000 Ford Ranger 4x2 supercab. 3.0L V6. 126,000 miles . Blown up 4R44E trans. (cracked case)

i know of a freshly rebuilt 4R55E from an Explorer for a very resonable price, which i understand is for the 4.0L V6 and has a different bellhousing. Can i just put the bellhousing from the old transmission on the new one?? will it bolt up>? is there any other differences?

any help would be appreciated. i'm a newbie when it comes to these Rangers.

Thanks!
Mark

I changed belhousing between a 3.0 and 2.5 4r44e trans without problem but I am not sure on your swap. I can tell you the pumps are in the belhousing, not like the old transmissions that the pump mounts in the trans

Thanks for the info fellas. I looked at the trans for sale, a 4R55E, for a 96 Explorer 4.0L, and decided i dont want to get into seeing if it would work or not. Its a real good deal, but might not be worth the hassle. I am going to keep looking for the proper trans
