Will a 3.73 LS fit a 3.27?

I know some axles have carrier breaks in them and certain gears need certain carriers.
I have a 94 Mazda B4000 with a 3.27 8.8. I have a Limited slip carrier out of another 8.8 that was 3.73. Just wondering If I can install it in the 3.73 without any problems.

Thanks

You should be able to. I don't think 8.8s have a carrier break

No carrier break. You should put 3.73s in the B4000. I had 3.27s in my explorer and wouldn't wish those upon my worst enemy.

I would, it would make them very easy to get away from. :icon_thumby:

there are no carrier breaks on the 8.8 but there are two different axle types, 28 spline and 31 spline. that could be an issue.

Correct, 28 and 31 spline carriers are not interchangable.

The 3.73 limited slip carrier is for a 28 spline axle. I know what I'm doing this weekend.

I kinda like the 3.27's for a daily driver driving 100 miles a day. I can run the interstate at 17-1800 rpm's

That's not the happy spot. I saw over 1MPG gain in my explorer by NOT using 5th gear.

Yeah it would fit. If your just doing 3.73's though I would just pick up another rear end already set up. They're a dime a dozen in Rangers from the 90's. I've seen hundreds in my search for 4.10's. I finally gave up and I'm using my parts truck's rear end. I don't know if you've ever set up gears or if your good at it, so the choice is yours. I'd much rather spend an hour bolting on another rear end.

I might regear to 4.56 if I ever go bigger. I've been considering a mild lift and 33's. But being 2wd in NY.. it seems almost pointless.

So when I go to a 35'' tire I would need between a 4.88 and 5.13 gear to get the optimal RPM in overdrive? I used the gear chart in the Tech Library to come up with that.

Yup.
4.88 if it's a highway driver, 5.13 if it's more of a weekend wheeler (i'd go 5.13 even on a highway driver if it's an automatic, the auto has a hair taller OD gear than the stickshift).

no, im running a 4 banger with a 4.10 pushin 31's no problem. but i will be throwing a v6 and some 35's on. and am plainin on going with a 4.56 ratio. ive heard people talking about runnin 33 with the stock 3.27 on some exploders(little sluggish taking off in first with a standard). and i have a friend pushin 32 with a 4.0 also with a 3.27.
