Hey! Im new to the forum. I recently picked up a 2000 Ranger xcab with the step side bed. Its a 3 litre automatic 2wd. Its a great little truck. Problem is the od light starts blinking after a few minutes of driving. Wish I had realized it before I bought it. Anyway, I have access to a complete 3.0 engine and automatic tranny out of a 2003 Ranger with only 60k miles. Is the transmission interchangeable with what I now have if I just use the 2003 tranny? Would the engine / tranny bolt right up and plug right in if I used the whole motor tranny setup out of the 2003? I can also get the computer for the 2003 if needed. Any advice would be appreciated. Ray

the 03 uses 5R44E and the 00 uses a 4R44E according to tech library, so you would need to use the 03 sensors, and ECM for the 00. may have to change some wiring around, but just look at the pinout on the 00 and 03 ecm(autozone should have them and see if the pins all match, then look at the tranny plug and see if it is the same the pin out is the same and you should be good, might ahve to move a few pins around, but if you get the 03 ECM you should be good to drop the whole 03 drivetrain in

First of all....

Thanks for the response! You think I should be able to drop the 03' engine/tranny in and install the 03' computer and it should be plug and play? That sounds too good to be true. Is my harness the same as the 03'? Thanks! Ray

just do your homework and research the pinout for each ECM

PATS may have to be reprogramed

worst case senerio you find someone to reprogram your 2000 ECM to include the 5R44E or run a seperate computer(http://www.becontrols.com/index.htm would be good to talk to they might beable to help in that area)
