Will 98 2.5 transmission work in 97 2.3?

There is a good deal on a 98 2.5 transmission and he says it only fits 98. I thought it may fit a 97 2.3 and want to verify before buying it. Im thinking it will go pretty quick at this price so I put it in this forum. Please let me know if you know. Ive been without a truck for like 3 weeks now looking for a good deal on a transmission.

If it is a manual transmission, they're the same thing, as far as auto's I have no idea, it'll bolt up but beyond that I don't know.

I think there was a change to the way the stick attaches to the shifter in '98. You can use it but be sure to get the '98 stick.

Or, if the stick for the 98 is unavailable you can swap shifter plates and use your old stick.
