wierd transmission number

My truck (04 4.0 4x4) has a manual transmission(at least i shift it through 5 gears with a stick and i had to replace the slave cylinder in the clutch last month) but im not sure of the type.(kinda a newbie). The transmission letter on the door pillar is j which is automatic 5 speed overdrive when its actually a manual. Can anyone explain??
