Hey all,

Thought i might post something on the site, anyway,

I got my 94 Ranger Ext Cab 4.0l V6 Auto a couple days ago, and i noticed something funny about the brakes.

When i hit them hard, they work perfectly,

But, when i ease on to them, it feels as if theres no brakes at all at times, then ill feel the brakes again.

And to be at a complete stop, i have to have the brake pedal on the floor.

anyone know what could be wrong?

Check the rubber lines for bulging... Will need a second person to hold the pedal down while you look...

WEAR GOGGLES.... Don't want to be under there looking when a lines lets loose with no eye protection!

Bleed the system.

Air in the lines.

If that doesnt solve it new master cylinder.

This happened to my 77 GMC this past weekend.

But bleed the brakes first, and see if it solves it.

If not, like I said its the master cylinder, the fluid is leaking past the piston cups and not creating pressure.

Always use protection :D

You can test the master cylinder by pulling both lines off and plugging each port on the master cylinder with a plug.

Start the truck and try and push the pedal. If the pedal is firm and will not move, both the master cylinder and the booster are good and the problem is either lines or brake calipers/wheel cylinder.

thanks

wow. i really didnt expect so much help. :) thanks guys

Its good to know theres actually people that visit this site everyday or so.

I understand what he means, Every other forum site I go to you have to wait for a day or two for a reply, this site is just awesome.
Brakes are really important. If you ask a question like, "how do I remove my ashtray" you'll find that responses aren't so quick.

this sight gets alot of traffic too from people that are not registered. i often see more guests than registered users listed at the bottom of the forum pages.

Thanks guys!

I took the truck to a friend whos a mechanic, and as it turns out, i could've just explained what was happening over the phone i described it so well. He said is was a Master Brake Cylinder like you guys said.

As it turns out my Girlfriend's mom owns a autoparts business. so i got it for free.

its just waitin to be put in.

anyways,

thanks again!
