ok so 2 years ago in went a new clutch.... (LuK clutch) on my 2001 4.0 Ranger...new slave cylinder et al...now here I am beating the snot out of my synchros etc cause the shifter IS NOT working...it randomly works fine then not at all...
I checked the fluid in clutch resevoir...a little low...as in 3/8 inch lower then fill line.
Replaced Tranny fluid.
still NO affect.

I am being told that the slave cylinder is the issue and maybe the pressure plate,...?

mny truck has 144000 miles and I am not sure if I can afford to fix this over getting a new truck. that is the canumdrum!

So has anyone had this problem and what would you think is the issue with my Clutch....
By the way...SYMTOMS= No clutch pedal pressure. Cannot move shifter into a gear. Cold weather seems to have no difference than warm. Full fluid resovoir didnt make a difference....however after driving the truck (if I can get it going) after a bit...10 miles or so...it drives and shifts fine...more over at high speeds over than slow..i.e. 3-4 and 5 gears are good 1-2 are really really tough. I have applied the "double clutch technique"....doesnt really do much..hit or mis anyways..

ANY HELP IS GREAT...I am frustrated!

The Crab.:annoyed:

Have you tried bleeding it at all? Sounds like you may have an airlock issue. I'd try bleeding it, and having the left side up in stand or blocks may help as well.

pump it up

If you pump the clutch pedal a few time before shifting, does it work better?
That might help distinguish between a hydraulic problem and a mechanical problem.

The next thing that I was going to do was bleed the lines...but it is a Blizzard right now and I dont have a garage. Also, when the clutch is pumped it deosn't have a different affect...

Weirdly enough though...last night it was "air locked" no motion no shifting nothing but grinding gears,...this morning...(super cold) and no issue...drove right off and has been shifting all day OK????

Thanks for all the suggestions...it is giving me some light for the end of the tunnel!!

Happy X mas and other Dec holidays

same problems on my 04 right now. i took it to a shop and they told me th slave is leaking. $764 to rplace the slave $1284 to replace w/ clutch kit. WTF. A clutch kit is around $300, lets assume $125 an hour thats almost 8 hours. does that seem right?

Slave was $85 Can. and I did one yesterday on my old white 97' in 3.5 hrs from first bolt out, to driving it outta the garage. The M5OD's in these trucks are light enough you can remove them by hand with two people, no jack required.

yeah i checked some shops in denver (i live next to vail so everything is high priced) and they quoted between $695-$850:thefinger:. thats more like it. i would do it myself if I had a garage, or maybe if it was summertime (im not crawling in 2+ feet of snow).

Wow, I honestly think that if someone offered me 850 to do their clutch I would do it in 2 feet of snow just to provide them with a little bit of extra entertainment.

^^^ I'd do it in 3' of snow for $850, haha... Just gotta layer up and go nuts, 18/13/10mm ratchet/socket and a bottle jack to hold up the engine.

It's just nuts and bolts. :) anything over $1000 is robery. wow.

word. i laughed when he quoted me. is there maybe an upgade clutch anybody would recomend? maybe a centerforce?

I'll take a look for the box mine came in when I replaced it....it's somewhere in storage. A lot of people will recommend the stock clutch as they hold up very well. The clutch I have doesn't seem to catch as hard, but holds a lot more and has a very stiff pedal compared to stock. I can't actually make this one slip, it'll just stall the truck. If I tried I was able to make the stocker slip.

ive seen some good prices on the SACHS ($250) and found a centerforce for $315. No slippage sounds tits to me brutha, it'b be much appreciated if you get a chance to check the brand.
