wich thermostat should i use. autozone sell some for 5 -7 dollars and they are 198 degree and o reilys sells some with 160 and 180 and 190 degree and motorcraft. my question is wich one should i use im not sure if 198 degree is too late or if 160 is too cool. also i have noticed if my temp gauge sits in the middle of normal it is actualy too hot acording to my spark plugs so i like to keep it around n or a little lower.

My choice would be the 198* one. The temp of the coolant doesn't have one damn thing to do with the color of the sparks. It has to do with how the engine was engineered to run.
The OIL in the engine expects 200/210* temp to do it's best. The computer expects 200/210* to do it's best.
My parts house has a 195* that I use mostly. But the 198* would be great in my estimation.

ok so i put the new one in and it barely stays in the lines of normal above the c it make no sense to me cause it should run the same or a little hotter then the last one if it was a 198 degree one right? but i bet some one is gonna say if its between the lines its normal right?

I just had a thread about this. I was told to get the air out the system before hooking the gauge wire up or it won't read right.

And btw cooler is better to an a degree. I'd go with the 180 unless its fully built or blown.

was i susppose to take the gauge wire out when i replaced the thermo? if so is it too late to take it out and let the air out and plug back up?

now that i think of it i didnt tighten the house fitting tight enough after i took it apart and it leaked a 1/4 gallon of coolant for a day on to a wire right behind the thermostat and housing? is that the temp sennsor or the thing you were talking about?

I was just told that air in the system can hurt the sensor. Don't know how true it is, but just go to Autozone and get a new one for 6 bucks. Make sure its the 1 wire sensor. And unplug it and drive a few miles to get air out then plug it in.

how do you unplug it? i was messing with it this morning and cant figure it out

I am confused you said you replaced the thermostat and you put a 195 degree one in I would just leave it alone for a bit the system will bleed the air out by itself if the guage is working dont fix it to check it touch the wire to the sender to ground and if it reads hot leave it alone. Is the one your messing with have two wires that is for the computer leave it alone the one you want has a single wire that is just the ground for the guage and the sender is just a variable resistor. I am guessing it is reading correct now with the new t-stat you will get used to the guage just keep an eye on it for a bit.

its not a motor craft but its a 198. and it just make no sense to me that it would be running that much cooler if the last one was a 195 i believe.

everything ford ranger I acquired, the temperature was always near the C than in a straight line
I did not know if normal . I rolled during 10 years as her to not change run truck

I always change my antifreeze is about .25 miles

when you change your fluid, open up your pipes and check if its clean and look to have not air to the thermostat zone and it reason to default

You were probabl used to it running hot if it is registering just leave it alone and call that your norm maybe taking and crimping the connector a little so it fits tite on the sensor will help most of the ones I have seen run on the lower side of the guage as long as the heater works good and the guage stays steady you should be fine dont worry about it you can put a new sending unit but I am willing to bet you get the same thing. after it cools down a few times the air in the system will be replaced by coolant jus keep an eye on the overfill reservour and keep it at the hot level after the engine warms all the way up.
