I use my mazda b2300 to go back and forth to work because I hate cars. I went with the 2.3 for mileage and ease of maintenance. I also have a ram 2500 diesel for when I need the truck. While I was at the ford dealer I was walking around looking at the new trucks and they had a 4x4 ranger sitting next to a 4x4 f150 the v-8 f150 had a beter epa mileage rating than the 4.0 ranger. So I started to wonder why so many people buy the 4.0 ranger over other trucks Randy

Well, I got mine because the size makes it soooo much easier to dodge trees, BIG holes, and traffic onthe few times that I actually go to town. I enjoy being able to "surf" through traffic, and parking it is real easy downtown, esp. parralell parking.

+1 An F150 is "more truck" but I don't NEED more truck. A Ranger is plenty for my needs. The smaller size makes it way more practical for DDing. I almost bought an 04 F150 long bed before I found my Ranger and the deal fell through. Looking back now, I'm soooo glad I didn't buy it. The thing would've barely fit in my driveway, and I would never even use it to it's full potential. Not even 1/3 of its full potential.

I have a 04, 250 Diesel sitting in the drive and use my 94 & 01 Supercab Rangers for work due to the economy driving around town. Need the big trk for camping & boating. Both Rangers are great work trucks and I feel they are more rugged than most of the competition.

I like the Ranger because it does what I need it to do and get me to where I want to go.

Haul a motorcycle, no problem. Carry 1,800lbs of cargo, sure why not. Tow your buddy's car out of the drink, pricelss. Now only if my Ranger was a 4x4. I could do more.

I drive a 4.0 Ranger because I want to, I have owned several fullsize trucks and even more rangers, and I just like the rangers more.

I wanted something smaller that I could easily run trails with with out being too wide. Also it was cheap and easy to lift.

Theya re so easy to navigate tight spots is why. Especially BII's and Sport Explorers!

because i can. i could seriously use a big bronco for my towing duties though.

As the others said above - it's a matter of using the right tool for the job. If I was towing large trailers on a regular basis or throwing a few thousand pounds in the bed, I'd have a larger truck in a flash. As it is, though, I use it occasionally for smaller loads, moving around a motorcycle, etc. Probably don't tow a trailer more than once a year or so. For my use, a 4 cylinder Ranger is ideal.

I ended up with my Ranger two years ago because it was inexpensive and available. I belive now that it's a match made in heaven! I need a truck on occasion, but not a big beast.
Mine is my daily driver. It's kind of like a Swiss army knife: it has so many uses!

I was not trying to start anything as I said I have one with the 2.3 for a daily driver and love it. But I see so many threads where someone tells someone else to get the 4.0 and that would be the wrong choice for me as I am lookin for max. fuel economy. Randy

If Ford still offered the 4 cyl with 4wd, I would've bought one. But they don't so I had to go with the 4.0. The mileage kind of sucks but I really do enjoy the power.
