Why is nobody open to new things.

eww macintrash...

pc's are cheaper
pc's are easier to fix
pc's have more upgrade option as far as video cards/disc drives etc
pc's support more software
pc's are superior for general use

when i think mac's i think of snobby people who drive european cars, drink wine, goto art shows and carry a dog the size of a possum, or spolied teenage girls.. no offense guys, macs arn't worth the trouble for me, XP and 9x were some of microsofts best operating systems i ever used.

Gotta agree with Adsm, Cody and KCM on this one.

Mac is the unit to get if you are into video/ art or any kind of video/ picture editing. the software industry in that sector has geared itself toward macs.

A PC will do everything a mac will do for a third of the price, plus is easily upgradeable and repairable. If you hate windows, get Ubuntu (or any flavor of) Linux. some Linux distros have a very Mac feel to the interface.

I do really like the aluminum cases for the Mac laptops tho....

I thought this thread would be on anal, then I noticed it was posted in the computer section.... W.e... I'll go play with my mouse for a bit then.

i dont game.
i dont do art.
i dont edit photos.
i dont edit music.
i dont know what the "specs" mean when people are talking about computers.

i use my computer for:
1. internet
2. itunes
3. typing stuff

i dont use my mac to its potential or remotely near it.

but i just like how it works. its easy. it makes sense.

gotta say, their tech support is amazing. i went in with a bad battery in my macbook (left it plugged in charging for about a month) and they just grabbed a new one off the shelf, unwraped it and dropped it in right in front of me. no charge to me. if i had to send that to HP or dell or acer, i wouldnt have seen the computer for 3 weeks.

sales is no longer about the product. because all the products can do the same thing. Id much rather run windows on my mac (dont hate windows, hate the hardware windows uses) then own an actual PC. cant stand 50 different products from all over trying to work together. My mac is made to work flawlessly. and when it does have trouble, Its nice to know i wont lose my computer for 3 weeks.

only trouble my macbook has given me in 4 years is my battery which was free.

im running on a 2.0Ghz with 2gb of ram macbook. its the aluminum non pro. they were only around for a few months. i can dual boot windows, hell i can boot from my external harddrive, and it runs GTA4, call of duty4 or MW2. black ops works awesome. Its because the OS takes so little to run, that i dont need 4.5Ghz to run these games.

mac is a tesla roadster. windows is an old 69 camaro ss. sure, its exciting and quick, but its outdated. besides, your gonna spend the same kinda money on all the software and hardware as you would on a built and ready mac. just ad windows to it and they are awesome.

again, dont hate windows. i hate the platform windows chooses to run their system on. the hardware sucks.

Sounds to me like you are near an apple store.

Paying 3+ times more for an apple computer than a similar spec'd PC, I would DEMAND good customer service as well.

And if you are not hardware savvy (don't have the time to deal with it or have the knowledge) and have the extra money, a Mac might be a viable option.

But as for PC, if you get good quality parts and build yourself, or have a computer store build you one if you don't have the knowledge or time, you can still get a machine that will perform as well as a mac for well under the price of a mac.

I have built my last computer from the ground up two years ago. got the parts from Newegg, payed less than 800 dollars for a fairly decent gaming quality computer. only one issue, the video card failed at 6 months. a new one was shipped to me by the vid card manufacturer in two days.

All other items that I might need would be available at either Fry's (just 5 minutes away) or Best Buy (10 minutes away) or Newegg (next day delivery) and any component in the computer I can replace in under a half hour, most of that time being unhooking the stuff and dragging it out of the desk.

and i'd like to see a brand that has the battery life of my mac. I only have to charge it once every few days and i'm on it for a couple hours each day. i'd say it lasts a good 8 hours.

Likewise only I use Napster. I also use it at work to look up parts at four manufacturer websites along with a plethora of aftermarket companies. The thing is always on, I use the heck out of it.

My Asus works, it is easy, it makes sense, it was much cheaper.

On top of that, I hate switching back and forth between a Mac and what the rest of the world runs on.

Battery life on my computer 2 years ago was about 4hrs which was fairly normal for a computer of its size at the time. Since I am on it all day and half the night and it is always plugged in it is down to about an hour now. I don't really care, I never need to use it very far from an outlet anyway. Work, home, garage, hotel rooms... they all have outlets.

You do realize that aside form the motherboard the hardware in a mac is almost identical to a PC now. Once you put windows on it it's just like any other PC.

Nobody needs a blazing fast PC to play games but it helps. Since I don't think any of those games run on OSX I'm guessing you run them in windows So it wouldn't matter if it's a mac or pc the OS is the same. And define running the games awesome, are you talking high resolution, high settings and high FPS. I doubt it as the current mackbooks couldn't do that.

again, dont hate windows. i hate the platform windows chooses to run their system on. the hardware sucks.

Once again the hardware is the same.

I'm not hating on OSX or saying I love windows either really (I'm stuck with it as a gamer) just your points aren't adding up to me.

x2 ^^

It's hard to make something new, I don't think it's a problem with people not open to new things. If they are looking at something that can't do what they can do now (or make it harder to get to that same goal), then they are not going to be open to using it. This is the problem with Linux. And that's why I don't use Mac.

Read in the first post that Windows applications aren't freeing up resources; that's a programmer problem. :) Windows slows down because of crappy coding, bloated registry, software adding services and start up applications (despite that you might not even use the product that it's related to). Clean a lot of that up, and it usually gets better. No speed complaints with XP running on my dual core AMD.

i just like precision, and quality.

i wouldnt spend 800 on a plastic laptop when i can spend 1300 and get a CNC machined laptop with the tolorences of a hair. mac is my rolls royce. windows computers just dont have the R&D in them. their customer service to anybody that doesnt mod or build them sucks. my moms gateway laptop cooked 3 hard drives, a power port and a block of ram, and she didnt have it for a month each time. she used it to email and type work up.

the ideas windows uses are just out dated. unfortunatly the world is progressing, and these windows based computers are the same they were 10 years ago, with some added speed and memory.

windows is worse then ford when it come to updating the look of their products. (same ranger since 97)

for instance. use a metal case as a heat sink. use a magnetic power cord cus lord knows its gonna get pulled out by accident. put in an anitglare screen with true 1080P. have drop protection so when the macbook feels its falling, it turns off the harddrive to protect from damage. make the touch pad the clicker, instead of adding unnesisary buttons.

i could go on for a week.

What I don't understand is, why Mac users seem to think because PC users don't want to switch, then they are "afraid". Lots of people have old programs that they can still use on newer systems. I still use Office 2000 and I have no need to upgrade because it still does everything I want it to. It still works on Windows 7 (compatibility mode) just the same as it did when I got it in 2000.

To pin the plastic case on all laptops is a stretch. There are plenty of options if you want a robust laptop. The Panasonic Toughbook is one hell of a tough customer. I've got an old one that has been through the war. I've seen them advertise some newer models surviving a 30" drop.

Get back to me in 22 years about how great your Mac is.

It took a week off a month and half ago for a different hard drive after a freak lighting storm, didn't miss a beat before and hasn't missed a beat since. Just keeps chugging away on MS-DOS. I think we decided it was an '89 model.

My Asus was in the $400 range, I would never spend $1200 for a personal computer. I have an Xbox 360 and a 32" tv that I like for playing games other than 1NSANE or Silent Hunter. And the neat part about a console, if it says it will work, it will work. No worries about how good the video card, ram, and HD is... and we all know they don't stay up to date very long anyway.

THE issue with owning/operating/using a Mac is the simple fact that if you are doing anything
that Apple didn't anticipate that you'd want to do there is no software to do it.

My personal issue with iTunes is that Apple has a weird idea of directory structure.

If you have an album by a particular artist and there is a guest on one track iTunes places that one track in a seperate directory.

All Live or greatest hits albums go into a seperate "compilations" directory rather than under the artist and all this is because apple isnores the "album artist" field in the id3 tag scheme
that itunes and mp3's are both designed to conform with.

Mac is particularly awful in its way of dealing with Album art.

Though one thing I will give them is that the iPhone version of the mp4 Video codec has essentially become THE "standard" codec for compressed video (Hell even WMP12 plays mp4 files natively)

I use a PC because it works for what I need it for. Most of my games are windows only. A lot of my programs are windows only. I like the way everything is laid out in windows. I'm not going to fix something that isn't broke.
