Why doesn't my security light blink?

I drove my friends new 2007 ranger this morning and noticed his security light blinks constantly when the truck is off like a typical alarm system warning light. On my 2009 it blinks for like 10 seconds when you first turn the truck off then stops. I want mine to blink all the time? Why doesn't mine blink all the time? Is this just something they changed between years?

Mine blinks but I never paid attention to how long it blinks or if it stops after a certain period of time.
