I've replaced the transmission that came with my 113,000 mile Ford Ranger 4WD pickup in 2006, and the transmission slave cylinder started going out last December, adn now is going to be needing replacement. This wet clutch is NOT one of Ford's better ideas, and I'm beginning to wonder if a transmission swap out or other fix is what is needed to keep from having shifting problems. Any thoughts or suggenstions are welcome.

Did you replace the clutch slave when you replaced the trans?

Pretty much every standard made today is hydraulic with a Concentric slave cylinder...Tranny swap won't do a thing. you have the strongest tranny offered with a ranger. Just get an OEM slave, or one with a neoprene boot on it, and slap it in. Believe me, 4 slaves later, i hate them to. I literally have a backup slave sitting in my garage just incase. courtesy of a warranty mix up.

I feel your pain. I repaced my slave with a new clutch less than six months ago, Today it went to the floor. I filled the master and got it to pump up but will have to replace it soon.

Be sure to thoroughly flush out the whole system (master cyl & clutch line) when you replace the slave. I suspect debris in the system is a common reason for the slave to fail.

Slave cylinder and tranny fluid replaced, now what ?

The Slave Cylinder got replaced Friday the 12, and the mechanic finally got it bled properly so it doesn't shift hard, and it appears to be working normally now, after 8 hours of work and $430.00 spent. Now how long will this new slave cylinder last till it fails and has to be replaced? And the fliud in the transmission was a dark sludgy color, and he replaced it with new fluid. Comments on either anyone ?

If you bought a quality slave then it should last until you need a new clutch. If you bought an el-cheapo brand then you may be doing this again in two or three years.

As for the fluid, that's nasty. If it was changed out then you should be good to go for a while.
